Television Shows:

 

Law and Order (1990 – 2010) This show focuses around a group of New York Police Department detectives and the district attorneys prosecuting their cases. Survivors should expect triggers in some, but not every episode. Most episodes revolve around solving a murder and then prosecuting the perpetrator. Occasionally, an episode involves a victim who also experienced sexual violence.

Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (1999 – present) This show focuses around the Special Victims Unit of the New York Police Department. Survivors should expect triggers in every episode to include: depictions of sexual violence; overt victim-blaming; court-room drama involving both victims and perpetrators. While many cases end with either a guilty verdict or a plea deal, there is not always justice for the victim when the credits start rolling.

 

Movies:

 

LA Confidential (1997) *It should be noted that this movie also involves a lot of violence against women. *Three suspects are accused of raping a woman. *One of the accused says her raped her just because he wanted to lose his virginity. *A naked woman is seen tied up to a bed inside the house of one of the rape suspect’s house. A woman is seen tied to a bed in the rape suspects’ house. *One man grabs another by his testicles to force him to talk.

Lady in a Cage (1963) *There is a rape scene in this movie. *A woman is trapped in an elevator during a power outage. Drawn by her cries for help, three sadistic hoodlums terrorize and rape her. *A psychologically and physically brutal movie. Exploitative.

Lair of the White Worm (1998) *This movie includes a scene where a woman is tied up against her will. The scene is filmed erotically. *Nuns are raped in this movie. *The rape scenes are extremely graphic and violent.

Last Exit to Brooklyn (1989) *A woman has sex with a gang of sailors in this movie. It should be noted that this can’t technically be called a rape scene, as the woman is a prostitute who invites the man to have sex with her. However, the sex scene that ensues is graphic and violent. I get the feeling that it is filmed as if it were a rape, but the movie producer gets away with it by having the woman consent to having herself to be used in this way. *An extremely brutal and quick sex scene takes place between a man and his wife while she is sleeping. Although not rape, this may be a very triggering scene for some.

The Last House on Dead End Street / At the Hour of Our Death / The Cuckoo Clocks of Hell (1977) *Gruelingly tasteless, graphic and demented. It is a movie about a man that makes pornographic snuff videos for a bunch of rich men. He eventually gets sickened by the men that pay him to make the movies and puts them in the snuff videos to do away with them. Many scenes of horrifying torture and bondage. *There are numerous S&M scenes, including rape.

The Last House on the Left (1972) *This is a horror movie in which four criminals kidnap, torture, rape and murder two teenaged girls. *The acts are shown in graphic and violent detail.

Last of the Hard Men (1976) *A woman is kidnapped and graphically raped. The scene is filmed callously and her reactions are unrealistic.

Last Summer (1969) *There have been many remakes of this movie, including a made for TV movie, which may also include rape scenes. *Three teenagers (two boys and a girl) rape a young woman. The rape is the climax of the movie.

Last Tango in Paris (1995) *This movie has a scene which could be seen as anal rape.

Last Train from Gun Hill (1959) *A woman is raped and murdered. *The husband of the rape victim searches for the perpetrators.

The Last Victim / Forced Entry (1975) *A man who has suffered years of childhood abuse at the hands of his mother has grown up to become a psychotic killer. He takes out his rage against women by raping them before he murders them. *He falls in love with one of his victims and she must learn to manipulate his feelings to save herself.

The Last Wargame (1993) *There is a rape scene in this movie.

Law or Justice (1989) *A serial rapist rapes two sisters. A female lawyer successfully defends him in court, and he is let off the hook. She now regrets her actions. He goes on trial for another rape and she must decide whether to follow the letter of the law, or take justice into her own hands.

Laws of Attraction (2004) *This movie contains a brief mention only of therapy or institutional sexual assault. A woman who is a nymphomaniac mentions that she had sex with her therapist while in rehab for her sex addiction. The act is not seen though.

Leaving Las Vegas (1995) *Yuri, who is a pimp, disciplines Sera, a prostitute, for not earning enough money. He disciplines her in a degrading way which includes cutting her bare buttocks with a knife, as he does not want to damage her face. *An extremely violent and shocking gang rape scene takes place. Sera goes out to meet a group of men who are paying to have sex with her while videotaping the event. They tell her they want to have anal sex with her, which she doesn’t want to do. She attempts to leave but they keep her there and punch her. She is held down and raped anally. * Sera takes a shower to cleanse herself from the rape. She is shown bleeding and then has flashbacks.

The Legend of Billie Jean (1985) *A local businessman attempts to rape a teenage girl after she tries to get him to pay for damages to her brother’s motorcycle. The damages were caused by the businessman’s son. This movie spawned the catch-phrase, “fair is fair.”

The Legend of Tom Dooley (1959) *There is a rape scene in this movie.

Lethal Victims / Death Blow / I will Dance on your Grave / W.A.R.: Women Against Rape (1987) *Women who are survivors of rape form a bond of their shared experiences. They are determined to put an end to rape in all society for good. *I am uncertain as to whether or not the rapes are seen, but this is very likely.

Let’s Play Dead / Abducted (1973) *This is a disturbing trash movie which has multiple disturbing scenes and issues. *The relationship between the mother and her sons is incestuous. *One brother kidnaps girls for his younger, mentally handicapped brother to “play” with. The brothers are middle aged or older. *The women are kept as “pets” in the basement. *The younger brother sexually assaults a young woman by playing “doctor” with her. Sodomy occurs in this scene. *The older brother rapes a young woman. *Nudity and torture is seen.

The Liar’s Club (1993) *A date rape happens amongst a group of three close friends. The rape scene is quite graphic. *The fact that the rape happened is kept secret amongst the three, in order to protect the perpetrator. *The rape survivor becomes increasingly adamant about telling the authorities about the rape, despite repeated attempts to silence her. She is murdered to stop her from talking.

The Life of David Gale (2003) *A reporter interviews man in prison for raping and murdering a friend of his.

Like Grains of Sand (1995)

Lilya 4-Ever (2003) *Rampant with rape scenes. These scenes are all filmed very graphically. *Rampant with sexually exploitative scenes. *Deals with the child sex trade and pedophilia.

Linda / Captive Women (1982) *A woman drugs her sister and forces her to work as a prostitute and undergo S&M acts. *A graphic rape scene takes place.

Linda and Abilene (1969) *This movie involves sibling incest. *A young woman is raped and her brother seeks revenge.

Lipstick (1976) *A music teacher of two sisters meets with the elder sister. She takes a phone call, interrupting their meeting. He then becomes hostile and she orders him to leave. A very graphic assault / rape scene takes place. She is completely brutalized during the rape. The scene is filmed very realistically. The music teacher also tries to scare and seduce her before the rape. *Later in the movie, after unsuccessfully prosecuting him, he is let free. The trial is seen, and it is very graphic in the retelling and disgusting that he is not prosecuted. *While free, he comes back to rape the younger sister.

Liquid Sky (1982) *This movie has several graphic rape scenes, including a lesbian rape. *Each rapist dies immediately after raping the heroine.

Lisa and the Devil / House of Exorcism (1975) *This movie focuses on incest and rape.

Lisa, Lisa (1977) *Two psychopaths rape a young girl. *She kills them to protect herself.

The Little American (1917) *A woman is almost raped by a man who is in love with her.

The Little Thief (1999) *I think that there is a rape scene in this movie, but am unsure.

Live Fast, Die Young (1958) *Kim, on of the sisters in a dysfunctional Californian family, suffers the effects of sexual abuse. This causes her to hate men.

The Locusts (1997) *Clay admits that he was guilty of statutory rape, although the act was consensual. We do not see anything take place.

Lolita (many remakes) *All the Lolita movies deal with pedophelia and / or statutory rape. *There is actual rape in the novel, although the authour does not use this term outright. This means that it’s likely that some of the remakes include scenes of rape.

The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996)

Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977) *At the end of this film there is a brutal, horrible and graphic rape scene.

Lorna (1964) *A sexually unsatisfied woman is raped. She then becomes infatuated with him despite his brutal treatment of her.

Loser (2003) *Two young men spike women’s drinks with drugs for the purpose of date rape. *After spiking some women’s drinks, one of the potential rapists is disappointed that the drugs are having no effect. *A man spikes some women’s drinks so he can later rape them. He makes the comments that he wants to know what kind of cab to order for her for after he is done.

Love Comes Quietly (1973) *This movie involves incest between a young girl and her step father. The sex is consensual. *This same woman is sexually assaulted by a farmer.

Love Field (1992) *There is a rape scene in this movie. *This movie contains battered wives, child abuse and kidnapping.

Lovely and Amazing (2002) *A woman is arrested for statutory rape.

Loving You (TV) (2003) *Dan, an educational psychologist, is accused of sexual abuse by a 6 year old girl that he has been assessing. This is central to the plot, as his prospective wife must uncover the truth of the accusation.

Lower Level (1992) *A woman is trapped in an empty office building after hours when she decides to work late. The obsessed security guard is intent on having the woman, and uses all the security features of the building to catch her. He stalks her and tries to rape her.

Lucky Numbers (2000) *Verbal references to rape are made. This is a very minor part of the film.

Lust for Freedom (1987) *This is an exploitative women in prison film which has scenes of rape.
